About the Author

Named for a song in the 1960s musical "Hair," Starshine Roshell is a freelance journalist and syndicated columnist. The winner of a California Newspaper Publisher's Association award for best column writing, She resigned from the Santa Barbara News-Press in 2006 in protest of management's ethics.

Her columns now appear in the Santa Barbara Independent, Ventura Star, Roanoke Times and on ParentClick web sites throughout the country. Starshine teaches journalism at Santa Barbara City College and writes for Westways, Santa Barbara Magazine, Destination Wine Country, Miller-McCune, 805 Living and Hybrid Mom. She wrote the children's books "Real-Life Royalty" and "A Day in the Life of a Fashion Designer" and was an author of the insider's guide "Hometown Santa Barbara."
